The action

The aim of the Action is to systematically record and study the research and scientific profile and performance of the University of the Aegean as a key representative of the regional research and innovation system. Specifically, it aims to create a research infrastructure for the systematic recording, processing and analysis of the research activity (publications, patents) of the faculty members and researchers of the North and South Aegean regions. 

 The action includes the following activities:

A – Qualitative Assessment and Data Consolidation 

Collection and processing of bibliographic data using different scientific databases, design and development of relevant algorithms through open source software.

B – Network analysis

Recognition of networks and synergies between the University of the Aegean and other research and non-research institutions within and outside Greece and investigation of the effects of specific public interventions or conditions on the promotion of research and the cooperation of Greek scientists at the regional and national levels. 

 C – Analysis of patent-based innovation indicators. 

Collection, analysis and processing of data on patents of Greek institutions based in the North and South Aegean Sea in fields of scientific interest of the eligible regions. The data to be collected are deposited in international repositories (European Patent Office, World Patent Office) and will be collected through the OECD patent database. 

D – Communication activities regarding the benefits of intellectual property registration. Targeted information and dissemination of information regarding the procedures and benefits of intellectual property protection and the findings of the research team regarding the availability and distribution of patents in the North and South European regions. 

The objective of the Action is to systematically record and study the performance of the regional research and innovation system. In particular, it aims to create an infrastructure for the systematic recording, processing and analysis of the research activity (publications, patents) of the stakeholders of the North and South Aegean border and insular regions of the country.

The Laboratory of Applied Economics and Technology Studies (Econ-Tech) is located at the Department of Financial and Management Engineering of the University of the Aegean. The laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of technology, economics and quantitative methods.

More specifically, the Laboratory of Applied Economics and Technology conducts research in the following research areas:

  • Applications of Quantitative Methods in Economics and Management (with emphasis on Finance)
  • Economics and Management of Technology (with emphasis on Information and Communication Technologies)
  • Socio-economics of Human Labor, Technology and Development
