The action

The action aims to organize and operate digital knowledge and innovation centers (Future Labs – FLs), along the lines of Future Classroom Labs (FCLs) in learning and creativity zones (an EU initiative and similar implementations in several countries, European Schoolnet, 2016), which will develop zones of creation, presentation and interaction as key infrastructures to promote innovation, new working practices and education.

With a focus on the Culture/Tourism and local/regional entrepreneurship sector, through these zones, members of the academic and local community will collaborate, in a coherent and creative framework, with the main pillars being a) the production of digitally enriched content for the cultural, tourism and business sectors, b) research, basic/applied, in professional fields and c) education/training of social and professional groups, aiming at introducing innovative digital technology practices in specific professional fields.

The Future Labs, through the different zones of learning and creativity, constitute a unique, for Greek standards (belonging at the same time to a European network of similar labs in 15 other countries), a physical and virtual space of meeting and cooperation between all stakeholders for the support and promotion of both the basic primary product of the place (natural environment, cultural heritage and culture), as well as the everyday culture and experience of the citizen, through the use of new technologies. These are modern learning laboratories that combine the use of cutting-edge technologies (e.g. virtual/augmented/mixed reality, robotics, internet of things), the functionality of the learning space and the redefinition of the teacher-student role. At the same time, Future Labs will bring together emerging technologies with private and public institutions, applying good practices, by co-creation of pilot actions and applications, potentially inspiring a new culture of thinking and working in their organizations. Finally, the networking of all Aegean Sea Future Labs is expected to lead to the development of knowledge networks and communities of practice among stakeholders, addressing challenges such as insularity, diffusing products/services first to the learning, working areas and eventually to the society itself.

The action aims to organize and operate four digital knowledge and innovation centers (Future Labs), which will develop infrastructure (creation zones), presentation and interaction zones to promote innovation, new working practices and education with a focus on the culture/tourism sector and local-regional entrepreneurship. Through these zones, members of the academic and local community will work together in a coherent and creative context.

[2]UA_DSPEED_LSER Department of Sciences of Preschool Education and Educational Design, Laboratory of Social and Educational Research

The aim of the laboratory is to support research and scientific work with the most modern means. One of the important objectives of the laboratory is the study of the social dimensions of technology in contemporary social and educational phenomena. The Laboratory is housed in a space of about 40 m2, has a great variety of equipment and a specialized technical support team. Since 2004, it has been supporting e-learning processes of the DSPEED, with the design and management through WebCT (LMS platform) of both departmental and institutional activities. Over the last 15 years, it has supported and continues to support postgraduate and lifelong learning programs, both technically and in terms of research. At the same time, a research team with long experience in research and exploitation of virtual worlds in education (within the framework of the MSc "New Forms of Education and Learning"), development and implementation of educational applications, particularly in adult education and vocational training, as well as in the implementation of co-funded projects, operates within the laboratory. The research team is composed of faculty members and members of the Department's Laboratory Educational Staff, as well as young researchers (doctoral and post-doctoral candidates) in the research fields addressed by this action. With the decisive support of the laboratory, students' theses and dissertations have been produced, as well as rich work in evaluation in education. The equipment of the laboratory is expected to be reinforced with equipment to support actions, applications and services related to emerging VR/AR technologies as well as mobile devices. This equipment has been linked to two postdoctoral research projects and is expected to expand the research towards new important directions of educational research.
